Rentanna to Truro

Overnight the mist rolled in, so I once again set off into the misty hills. It was a nice morning, cool and although the mist lingered it wasn’t damp.

I started by following a series of footpaths on my way to Stithians Lake. The footpaths were relatively dry compared to some that I have covered over the past few days. I’ve swapped the sound of the sea and waves for birdsong, which has been beautiful in its own way.

I soon arrived at Stithians Lake, where I had a pause in the bird hut. There weren’t many birds to see, however, it was really peaceful sat looking out on the water.

I then took the footpath along the edge of the lake. Along the way I was rewarded with seeing two great crested grebe. These are one of my favourite birds, I love how elegant they are, especially when they display during mating season.
At the end of the lake, I crossed over the dam, it was amazing to watch it overflowing. You definitely needed a head for heights with the water on one side and a drop on the right! It reminded me of the dams at Ladybower Reservoir, even if this was a slightly smaller scale.

I then made it into Stithians village which had a beautiful church. When planning my route, I broke it up into individual legs. Stithians marked the end of Leg 2. The next leg takes me to the end of the moorland on the other side of Tavistock.

I followed a series of country lanes out of Stithians and towards Trebost.

I came across a cheese shop at the bottom of the hill. I don’t really like cheese, but I did find some very nice vanilla ice cream.

I then continued on a series of double walled footpaths. It was really peaceful walking along between the trees, and listening to the birds around me.

As I stopped for lunch, the sun came out, and it turned into another beautiful day. The rolling hills of Cornwall were either side of me, reminding me a lot of the White Peak. Walking around the outskirts of Perranwell, I saw a magnificent viaduct in the distance.

For the afternoon, I followed a series of lanes into Truro. It was lovely and warm in the sun, with a gentle breeze to stop me getting too warm.
Today was a slightly shorter day (~20km), so I finished walking at half 1, went to Lidl to get some snacks before heading to the guesthouse. Tomorrow I have a rest day in Truro, so I’ll be staying for a couple of nights. I’m hoping to dry and clean my kit, ready for my next stretch of walking to Sidmouth.
It has been a really lovely day of walking, I’m feeling so lucky to be out in nature and exploring Cornwall. I’ve seen so much already, and can’t wait to see what I’ll find in the miles to come!
