Watlington to Chivery
Whilst snow was falling in Buxton, I woke up to a few spots of rain in Watlington. The rain was light and I got my tent down without it getting too wet! I was soon ready to set back off along the Ridgeway.
The Ridgeway was a lovely track through hedgerows, with fields either side. The rain overnight had made the ground slightly softer, and thankfully not slippery!
The blossom is really starting to come out, which is beautiful.
I paused for my morning snack and the rain had stopped. I even took my waterproof trousers off.
I was a bit worried that I had tempted fate, but the sun soon started to come out and it warmed up a little. Today was much windier than the past few days, so although the sun was out, I did need an extra layer. I followed a lane to the outskirts of Princes Risborough.
I followed a track around Princes Risborough, skirting around the outside of the town.
The Ridgeway then took me through Brush Hill nature reserve, which was a beautiful woodland.
I climbed the many steps up Whiteleaf Hill.
At the top, I was rewarded with beautiful views and there was a toposcope to point out some of the features.
I continued on to Pulpit Hill. At this point, I spotted that I’d made it to Buckinghamshire. This was another county to add to the list!
Pulpit Hill had beautiful views, it was amazing to see the land go so flat ahead of me!
The Ridgeway took me through some more woodland. Whilst walking through, I had my first hail shower of the day. It was only five minutes long, but it did turn the path into a white carpet.
The hail soon stopped, and by the time I was on Coombe Hill, the sun was back out again.
Coombe Hill Monument sat on top of the hill. It honours local men who died in the South African War.
As I turned around and I could see the weather coming in. I knew the next lot of hail wasn’t too far away!
Sure enough, the hail arrived, but thankfully it didn’t last for very long!
On the way into Wendover, I had a slight diversion, around the HS2 works. It was interesting to see all the construction from afar.
In Wendover, I stopped at the shop to resupply, and also treated myself to a blueberry muffin and some oranges.
I left Wendover through Wendover Woods which was a beautiful woodland. None of the trees had their leaves yet, so the sunlight still made it through.
The last part of the footpath was in a ditch through the woodland. I really enjoyed walking on the crunchy leaves, with the trees towering above me.
The footpath took me to the road, where I finished for the day. Today has been another lovely day. I was very lucky with the weather, which was definitely not as bad as the forecast.
Tonight I’m visiting 1st Aston Clinton Rangers. I’m really looking forward to sharing my adventure with them. Their leader Coral is also very kindly letting me stay for the night!
