Homersfield to Diss
Happy Easter! I hope that everyone had a lovely and peaceful day! 🐰🐣
After having a sheltered camp spot on the pub’s campsite, I was well protected from the high winds. The sun was shining when I woke up, and I was ready to set off just before 8.
I set off out of Homersfield, back along the Angles Way. It took me through a mixture of fields and woodland into Mendham. I could just about see the River Waveney in the distance.
After passing through Mendham, I crossed over the river and took a lane to the outskirts of Harleston.
My route for today, vaguely followed the Angles Way, but I’d chosen to reroute in a couple of places to cut the bends out (this was one of them)!
I stopped in a field and had my morning snack. Whilst I was there, the chap walking the Angles Way passed me again. He had overtaken me yesterday, but I had passed him in the afternoon, after straightening out some bends. It was nice to catch up and see how he was doing.
I then rejoined the Angles Way to Brockdish. It took me along these rolling fields, which were nice to walk along. The slight rise to the side of me, reminded me of the White Peak.
The footpath then led into a small woodland. Lots of the blossom was on flower, which surrounded me with white clouds.
The Angles Way then took me through a series of fields towards Sole Common. The wind was strong at times, and I put my hood up, to stop it affecting my ears.
I then followed a bridleway to Frenze. The rape seed looked really bright under the sun. It has been amazing to see so much yellow!
At Frenze, I had a look around the local church. Although it is no longer used for services, the church is preserved by the Churches Conservation Trust. It was a nice little church, with delicate wooden chairs, instead of pews.
I then made it into Diss, where I finished my day’s walk. If all goes to plan, my total journey will be 107 days. That means that with today’s walking complete, I’m officially over one third of the way through! I can’t quite believe that it’s come round already, and how far I’ve come. I’m just enjoying walking along, it’s hard to comprehend that all of those steps add up and I’m actually walking across the country! Maybe it will sink in by the end…
I’ve got some very special visitors for my rest day tomorrow. My mum and sister are coming to visit me. It will be lovely to see them, and spend some time together. I took the opportunity to have a shower and a nap, before they arrived in the evening.
