Day 70: 09/05/26

A Rest Day in Tweedbank

Today, I’ve had a lovely rest day in Tweedbank. I had a nice lie in, before doing some sorting and jobs.

Unfortunately the boot saga continues, as I accidentally ordered the wrong size – oops! So we first had a trip to the post office so I could return them, and I’ve ordered the correct size to my next rest day. (I’ve triple checked my order this time!)

We then had a trip to the supermarket, so that I could resupply.

The afternoon was a mixture of sorting and I also caught up on Race Across the World. I’ve really enjoyed watching strangers take on their own adventure, whilst I’ve been taking on my own! It feels like I can relate to them a little, but I’m definitely glad that I’m not opening an envelope for my next destination after each rest day!

Gail and I then took her dog for a walk around the Abbotsford Estate. The estate was the home of Sir Walter Scott. It was lovely to walk around the grounds. The mixture of forest paths reminded me of Grinlow Woods back home.

For tea we had haggis stuffed chicken breast, which was really good! I’d had haggis before at a guiding event, and knew that I liked it, so I’d been looking forward to having some, once I crossed over the border!

I’m looking forward to setting off again tomorrow. Tomorrow marks the start of Leg 16, which will take me to Milngavie (pronounced Mul-guy) to start the West Highland Way! When I started, the West Highland Way felt so far away, and now it’s almost around the corner!
